Essie Justice Group is launching an Advocacy Series so women and gender non-conforming people with incarcerated loved ones in California can stay informed on issues impacting their loved ones and collectively advocate for change. This Advocacy Series is hosted by Alesha Monteiro, Essie member and Advocacy Fellow, and will feature various topical experts.

Upcoming Sessions:

Connect with us as we discuss “understanding and advocating for visits with your incarcerated loved one.” We will do a breakdown of CDCr’s current visiting rules and regulations, discuss the current yet long-standing issues that so many families are facing and attempt to brainstorm some next moves to advocate for our visits.

When: Wednesday, November 10, 2021 from 5-7 pm

 

In this session we discuss “understanding CDCr’s 602 grievance process so you can advocate for your incarcerated loved one.” We will do a breakdown of CDCr’s current 602 policy, discuss the current yet long-standing issues that so many incarcerated people are facing and attempt to brainstorm some next moves to advocate for our loved ones.

Session 3: Legislative Change to Get Our Loved Ones Free: Learning about New Key CA Laws Related to Sentence Enhancements

California, a leader in the “hard on crime” era is finally seeing some relief by way of enhancement repeals amongst other new laws. We will do a deep dive into all of the bills that recently were written into law and hope that before the end of the session, you will be able to identify exactly what new laws will help bring your incarcerated loved one home and what is needed to help facilitate that.
