On Saturday, October 30, 2021, Essie Justice Group joined Black Lives Matter-LA, Dignity and Power Now, Muslim ARC and the Check the Sheriff Coalition for the Rally for Stolen Lives. Ms. Khadijah, an Essie Sister, led this powerful rally in demanding justice, transparency, and police accountability. Ms. Khadijah’s loved one, Dana Mitchell Young Jr. aka Malik, was killed last year by Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and has been fighting for justice since.

“Dana was my adopted son…He was also a brother, a friend, a cousin, a nephew,” Ms. Khadijah said at the Saturday rally. “For me, this rally is all about standing up. And standing up and for people who have been bullied or mistreated. And in this case, standing up against law enforcement responsible for taking our loved ones. If you have ever felt separated, or if you’ve ever felt isolated or felt that you had no voice, we’re here to fight for you today. We fight for us.”

Here are ways to help fight for justice for the more than 945 lives killed by LA Law Enforcement:
  • Join Black Lives Matter – Los Angeles for the weekly “Fund Services, Not Police” rally to #endpoliceassociations. Occurs every Wednesday at 4pm on 1313 W. 8th Street
